An emerging group of young football hooligans has been destroyed following quick action from Barnsley police.

About 50 teenagers hell-bent on violence started causing trouble at Barnsley FC matches at the start of this season.

By identifying the main culprits and allocating a team of officers to monitor the problem police were able to break up the group.

But the holligan problem has not gone away. There was trouble when Barnsley played Hull City this season and seven Reds fans will appear before a court next week in connection with alleged football-related disorder.

Supt David Hartley tells Chronicle Online why he believes the police are winning the battle against hooliganism.
